With cruising becoming the most popular type of holiday package it has had to adapt itself and improve on its experiences to become the ultimate in travel and luxury. New breeds of cruise liners have been introduced over the past ten years with facilities expected of 5 star hotels. These new 'super' cruise ships are equipped with everything you could think of and then some more!
These cruise ships are amongst the largest ships in the world and are referred to as Cities on the sea. Facilities include the more commonly expected features of liners such as ballrooms, cinemas and swimming pools but with some added extras. The latest ranges of cruise liner have multiple swimming pools, shopping districts, golf courses and can carry up to 6000 passengers.
The main bulk of these supersized vessels operate in the Caribbean ocean and are stable fixtures to anyone deciding upon a fantastic cruise at any time of the year. Super liners such as those belonging to the Royal Caribbean International fleet have split their amenities and attractions into zones called neighbourhoods. To show the extent of how cruise ships have changed in recent years we will use the worlds largest passenger ship 'The Oasis of the Seas' which contains many 'zones' as an example.
Central Park
The central park zone contains plenty of shops, boutiques and bars all located within a living park of over 12,000 different plants and 56 trees.
The pool and sports zone
This zone covers an entire floor and gives cruise goers the chance to relax in its many swimming pools, spas or even try out a huge range of sports in one of its many sport courts.
Vitality at sea spa and fitness centre
Many Spas and gyms adorn this area with health and fitness facilities for people of every age.
Boardwalk
This wonderful zone is themed and features a hand crafted carousel and contains many bars, restaurants and even a tattoo parlour.
Youth Zone
During a holiday, especially a cruise it is important to keep children entertained, and cruise liners now invest a lot into making this a priority. This zone features a science lab for budding inventors and scientists.
